Everything is personal
Very few sayings amongst my peers irk me like “its not that deep”. Everything is deep and everything is personal. If it is done to my person by another person then it is personal. How we treat others is directly affected by the ties we have to them, not necessarily the ones they have to us because that is just not how it works. People do the things they do to you…because it is you. There is no other reason to be honest because they probably would not have done the same to their grandma, mother, or their child, but they had absolutely no problem doing it to you. You have every right to be livid, and you can react as you see fit (if it is legal of course) because they did to you as they saw fit.
This extends to speech as well; people often say that the world is too sensitive or that people cannot take jokes anymore. They say that because they can no longer get away with being terrible people without consequences, they try and shift the blame onto those who feel aggrieved by their words. No one ever says that people are too sensitive after telling someone they love them or appreciate them. It's always after some hate speech is disguised as “dark humour” in an attempt to get “artistic freedom” to say whatever ill intentions are in their hearts. It is also tied to systemic positions of power where you were traditionally able to do as you please because your victims had no voice but now they do and you are crying foul even though the blood is in your hands.
Everything is that deep, you just do not care about other people. That failure is your parents and the shame belongs to you.
Exactly bawo. Uyitye yonke!!!

DeleteYes, everything is as deep as you dig. And everything is personal, when done to a person. Very true.
ReplyDeleteThank you for patronage.
ReplyDeleteThere's a a certain self-righteousness and intolerance associated with being too woke. When people cannot control their own emotions they try and change other peoples behaviour. The mere fact that sensitivity is subjective and relative is exactly why free speech should be limited as little as possible. The law cannot cater for every single offensive need and love for one another cannot be legislated. Those of you on the left are more concerned with feelings than with logic just like those on the far right. What happens to comedy then? Thats mostly dark humour.
